Interviewing Caregivers
Use the same questions with each person and make comparisons. Ask about:

Previous caregiving experience (length of employment at each job and reason
for leaving. Avoid anyone who quit jobs because employers were "mean or
unreasonable." This may indicate a problem with authority.)
Reasons for wanting the job
Openness to take direction
Available, reliable transportation
Other responsibilities that may interfere with work, such as classes, family
obligations or second job
Overall health status and ability to perform heavy lifting or other duties

Regardless of whether you hire a caregiver through an agency or on your own, the process of finding the right person will involve your impressions
and best evaluation of a few key traits:

Can the person perform needed tasks?
Does his or her previous experience resemble required duties?
Does the caregiver appear reliable, honest and compassionate?
Will this person show up as expected and follow through with duties?
Do you, the person needing care, and the caregiver seem compatible?
Will the caregiver be concerned about the client's well being?
Is the caregiver open to working with the client to ensure needs are met?
